Sailing Room Only on Music Island?

The March 21 performance at Music Island of Duo Appassionato was so full that one resourceful member of the audience, Fuzsea Lime, decided to launch a ship, sail it behind the stage and create extra concert standing room for a few avatars. His actions amused the crowd and was a practical solution as the stage area is in a separate sim from the crowded audience.

Duo Appassionato possesses exceptional virtuoso ability and musical harmony rarely found in two instrmentalists of the same genre performing together. Both active solo performers of unsurpassed spirit and flair, the duo has a refreshing stage presence and often explores a repertoire that is rarely performed because of its unusually demanding nature. They project " virtuosic devilry and imagination..." and their playing is " stunning and incredibly well matched". Their presence is a highlight to any recital or concert stage.

Aldo plays a unique blend of improvisational ambient guitar. You have to hear it to believe it! In real life, this avatar studied classical guitar, Renaissance and Baroque lute, trombone, and recorder. He records and performs under his project name of "usr/sbin". He contributes regularly to collaborative recording efforts for The Ambient Collective , has released an EP for the netlabel Mandorla Records , where his work is also showcased in their MANDORLA AUTUMN TUNES NET-COLLECTION release, and regularly participates in the National Solo Album Month.

His CDs are listed in iTunes and Rhapsody, as well as several other online music services. A quick search for "usr/sbin" with your favorite online service should turn up his recordings; if not, let him know! His recordings can also be heard regularly at Stillstream Records.

In 2008, he has been doing a regular monthly performance, celebrating the Full Moon in his "Full Moon Lunacy Concert Series" that takes place, you guessed it, every full moon at Bibi's Sky Castle in Yongnam(see the SLURLS below!). He has recently added a music kiosk where you can purchase full-length CDs and individual tracks of his music from his many (well over 300) Second Life performances ... it's located in Madison Place (Slurl below). You'll need to set up a Second Tunes account to take advantage of that, but that's easy enough to do, by going to http://secondtunes.com/

Music Island Performer -- Thom Dowd

Thom Dowd not only is a musician who has been performing in Second Life for several years but he is also an enthusiast who has helped several other musicians learn how to stream and assisted with connecting them to venues like Music Island to give their first concerts in virtual reality. Thom and his students create a sense of occasion at all their events. Audience members feel like they are joining them in their living room in Switzerland, the immediacy is so present in the air. Thom's blog is here.

The program for the most recent concert by Thom and friends was as follows-- a typical inspirational afternoon.

Music Island Artist, Akito Kuramoto

Akito has been performing on Music Island since January 2008 and was given Artist-in-Residence status after several concerts and events. His concerts are always thoughtfully programmed and he takes care to prepare helpful notes for the audience and to introduce each piece with his own thoughts. Our audience came to love the man as much as the music and miss him dearly now that he is on a hiatus due to RL commitments.

Bio :
***
I have been presenting live violin recitals in Second Life for one year.

In first life, I have been studying violin in France for 25 years. I have the chance to be able to work with a great professor, who communicated me a real passion for violin. I also could study in famous international training and master-class sessions. It was a honor for me to win a few years ago, a first Prize at the international Leopold Bellan music competition in Paris. I am now performing concerts in orchestras as an amateur, with various symphonic and chamber groups.

I didn't choose music as a professional path and I want to keep violin in my life as a passion, but I always had the dream to become a solo performer. Second Life gives me the chance to make this dream come true.

Therefore, playing for you is a challenge and makes me very happy.

Thank you for listening !
